![]() ![]() After Keith arrived in Munich in 1987, he, Dietmar and lawyer friend Dietrich von Boetticher founded Fidelio, naming it after Beethoven’s only opera. However, he’d been sidetracked by an interesting request from a Munich-based opera agency for a system to help manage bookings and singers’ preferences/needs. ![]() After some discussion, Gruen, then in his final year of college, agreed to go to Germany with Dietmar the next summer – ostensibly to help him with some software but mostly to visit Europe for a few months, learn a European language and see Dietmar’s family’s castle hotel, Schloss Elmau.ĭietmar had become interested in hotel computers at Cornell and wanted to develop a system to replace his hotel’s PMS. Keith Gruen met Dietmar Müller-Elmau in 1986, at the New York apartment of a mutual friend.
